The Power of Prayer
Do you believe in the power of the spoken word and prayer? I do.
Even if you’re not religious (I don’t really consider myself religious either; just spiritual), I believe there is value in connecting with your higher power. My personal higher power is God in the form of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. I believe in drawing upon the strength of God for my daily efforts.
And though I haven’t talked much about the power of the spoken word yet, I believe there is something to be said about the words you speak. Your life is a mirror reflection of your words, because your words are an extension of your thoughts. If you want to change your thoughts, change your words. Likewise, if you want to change the words you’re speaking, begin to control your thoughts. If you want to change your confession, prayer is a good place to start.
I don’t believe prayer is about motivating God to do something on our behalf. He already knows our needs and is more invested in our mission that we are. Ultimately, I believe prayer is about aligning our thoughts and our will with God’s. It is also about seeking for answers; looking for the solutions He has already provided in our lives, and recognizing them. More often than not, God expects us to work with Him to solve our problems. If we learn to work with Him, we will grow through the process and become better people.
Prayer is a conversation with God. Depending on your tendencies and passions, you might pray a little differently. You may ask God to help you with different things. The prayer I’ve outlined above is a prayer for engaging fully in life, because I believe in making the most of each day rather than just letting it pass. This does not mean that I believe in overextending myself or burning myself out. Rather, I desire to be conscious about work, play and rest.
